Want
to get noticed by the media but are tired of waiting for reporters to find you?
Sometimes it just feels like too much effort to go and track down the right
reporter to help you get the word out about your story.
Now, however, there's no need to wait because you can sign up for the free list service, Help a Reporter Out.
Peter Shankman built this list because many of his friends are reporters, and
they call him all the time for sources. Rather than go through his contact lists
each time, he figured he could push the requests out to people who actually have
something to say. The requests come from reporters directly to him.
Each day, you'll receive up to three emails, each with anywhere from 15-30
queries per email. If you see a query you can answer, go for it! Shankman's
only rule for responding to a reporter's query is a promise that you will not
email a reporter with an off-topic answer that doesn't match what they are
looking for. In other words, don't try to wiggle in to get coverage for your
business when you don't really have what a reporter needs.
Recently the format changed so queries (reporters' requests) are now by
category, saving even more time when scanning the lists.
